Saint John Baptist de La Salle
Born in France in 1651, John Baptist de La Salle is considered the founder of Catholic schools. Through his generous spirit and acts, he made education accessible to the young, poor and marginalized. La Salle's methods were remarkably innovative. He grouped students by ability, got parents involved, and developed teacher training programs.
