One of the four Gospel writers, Luke was a physician by trade. His impressive writing skills probably stemmed from that education, and tradition believes he was also an artist. Luke likely set out to capture the history of Jesus through personal interviews with those who met the Savior. Luke's Gospel emphasizes Jesus' compassion and patience with sinners and the suffering. Luke also wrote the Acts of the Apostles, and was a friend of Saint Paul.
